Class News

January 18, 2019

Dear Kindergarten Families,

Today your children brought home their first semester report cards. Please keep the report card and all other information from t he envelope, sign the envelope, and return it to school on Tuesday. I enclosed Dreambox and Raz-Kids log in information so that you all have access to these programs at home.  I am proud of your children.

I hope you can attend Kindergarten Math Night with your child on January 31st from 6:30 - 7:30PM. This is a night to play some math games that support your child's growth in math.   I will be there helping with the games.   Information was sent in an email from the school, and can be found in the Locker section of this website.

This week in math, we have been working on addition using number bonds.   The children are learning the concepts of parts equalling the whole. They are writing equations to go with their work.

In writing, we are beginning to write "How To" teaching books.   The kids will be writing to teach others to do something they know how to do.  This week we practiced by writing a book about how to wash your hands.

We learned about Martin Luther King Jr.  The kids learned about how he worked and spoke to make the world a better place for all people.  He worked to change laws so that all people can live in peace.

We are beginning to study the weather.   We were weather watchers this week, and learned about all the things we look for in a picture to tell what the weather is like.

Last week your kids brought home information about our school Spelling Bee. This is a great opportunity to raise money to support many of the programs at Twin Creeks.  It is also a great time for the kids to practice spelling our Kindergarten Sight Words.  This month, I will not be introducing new words in class.   We will be practicing writing the more difficult words that we have learned.  For many kids, writing the words from memory can be more challenging than reading or recognizing them.  I encourage you to practice at home as well.   Thank you for supporting our school!

Valentine's Day will be here before you know it.  If your child is already wanting to get a start on Valentines, please follow these guidelines for our class.   The children are to sign their name on each Valentine, but not write names on envelopes.  They will simply be delivering one to each child's bag in class.   We will decorate Valentine bags in class to collect Valentines.   As the kids are delivering one to each child's bag, please do not do separate Valentines for boys and girls.  Valentines will be delivered on February 12th, and opened on the 14th at our class party.  There are 24 kids in our class.

Thank you to those of you who are able to volunteer in class.   Here is a link to the Sign Up Genius.

We  also need a volunteer every Wednesday to help in the library from 9:00 - 9:30, and someone to help in computers from 9:30 - 10:00.  Please send me an email if you are available for either of those.

Happy New Year!

About the Teacher

This is my 30th year of teaching in San Ramon.   I spent 26 years in Kindergarten and 1 year in First Grade at Bollinger Canyon, before coming here to Twin Creeks in 2016. I earned my Bachelor of Science in Human Development from UC Davis, and my teaching credential from Saint Mary's College.  I absolutely love Kindergarteners, and the whole Kindergarten experience that is full of social, emotional, and academic growth.

I have 2 sons, Kyle and  Dylan.

I love running, hiking, wake boarding, and spending time with my family and friends.
